Coquina Dose is the book on your nightstand under a lamp with a 40 watt bulb. It’s driving alone at night up and down the strip looking for a pool to crash. It’s the endless lights of luxury, hotels, oceanfront dining. It’s dogs barking, the wind off the water, dead friends, and sunsets that are no longer free. Everything humming, everything buzzing. It’s a new day, in the same circuit. Short interesting rides, followed by a loss of momentum. Notes of grass, lychee, pineapple, burnt sugar.

Call, Response was conceived of as a long distance musical conversation between myself and David Andree. A single take of material performed by one artist was recorded to magnetic tape and sent to the other with the restriction that accompaniment be recorded in real time as well, closely simulating a live performance. Over time, as we learned more about each other and our methods, an overarching quality to the body of work developed from our shared sensibilities. The call and response format allowed each of our voices as artists to be present, interacting and intersecting, within a murky atmosphere punctuated by melodic fragments and moments of clarity.
